Terceira Island


The importance of Terceira (“Terceira” meaning the third, and referring to the order by which, probably, the islands were discovered), was due to the outstanding protection offered by its natural bay, where services of support to the navigation were installed.

The island became known every where, depicted by most of the cartographers dealing with the discoveries’ project.
