| Formed by a small volcanic eruption in the sea, on the edge of the South part of the Terceira Island, became afterwards tied to land by a narrow lava river. |

Angra owns its bay, the deepness of the waters, and the protection from the predominant West winds, to this “volcanic event”, happened some thousands years ago. As so, the Regional Government of the Azores, through several tentative legislations has progressed to the Regional Legislative Decree Nr 15/2004/A, which declares Mount Brazil as a classified zone, in regime of protection and valuation of Angra do Heroísmo, World Heritage. |
